An Occupational Therapist trained in Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) helps children with sensory processing challenges. How the brain interprets and responds to sensory input from the body and environment is sensory processing.

Using structured, play-based therapy, ASI therapists support the development of the brain’s ability to organize sensory information—which is essential for learning, movement, emotional regulation, and participation in everyday activities.

An ASI® therapist addresses core sensory processing areas that may impact a child’s:

  1. Body Awareness & Movement (Proprioception/Vestibular)
    • Difficulty sitting still, clumsiness, poor balance or posture
    • Challenges with coordination, motor planning, or navigating space
  2. Tactile Processing (Touch)
    • Overreacting to textures (clothes, food, touch) or under-responsive to pain or temperature
    • Difficulty with fine motor tasks like writing, buttoning, or using utensils
  3. Sensory Modulation & Emotional Regulation
    • Easily overwhelmed, frequent meltdowns, or appearing disengaged
    • Difficulty transitioning, calming down, or staying alert
  4. Attention & Learning
    • Trouble focusing, following directions, or staying organized
    • Over- or under-reacting to sounds, lights, or background noise
  5. Play and Social Participation
    • Limited play skills, avoiding peers, or difficulty with pretend play
    • Challenges joining group activities or adapting to new environments
    • Personalized, Child-Centered Therapy: Sessions are tailored to your child’s unique sensory profile and developmental needs.
    • Play-Based and Engaging: Therapy uses meaningful, motivating activities that are fun but purposeful.
    • Improves Everyday Function: Targets real-life challenges like dressing, eating, handwriting, school performance, and behavior.
    • Neuroscience-Backed Methods: Based on the research and framework of Dr. A. Jean Ayres and delivered with fidelity by trained professionals.
    • Builds Confidence & Independence: As sensory systems become more integrated, children feel more in control of their bodies and emotions. Benefits of Working with an ASI Therapist
