3:30 on a Friday afternoon is a busy time for the Martin family.  Oldest sister Katie made weekend plans with her friends on the school bus, mom Laura is tending to baby Julie and middle sister Emily is being dropped off by the school transportation service that takes her to and from the Alexander Graham Bell school in Columbus every day.

A Special Visit
On Wednesday, August 1, participants in the Summer Preschool Language Program were treated to a special visit from supporters of the Delaware Speech and Hearing Center.Jeff Gillette, and Major and Carolyn Crispin came to Woodward Elementary School to participate in activities lead by the Center’s Speech-Language Pathologists.The visitors played language and learning games with the children, sharing laughter and fun while observing this long-running program.

Peyton's Story
Peyton is a talkative six year old girl who loves to spend her time playing creative games with her younger sister Aubrey and their friends. According to her mother, “the Preschool Summer Language Program is about fun.It’s about playing with the other kids,” which is not something that Peyton always knew how to do.

Image When Peyton was three months old and starting daycare she developed a lung infection.This infection proved to be much more than a cold, and led to nearly a year of testing at Children’s Hospital in Columbus.After a bout with the croup close to Peyton’s first birthday a lung biopsy was ordered, and doctors diagnosed Persistent Tachypnea, a rare and serious lung disease.  The doctors instructed Peyton’s parents, Becky and Scott, to do all that they could to protect her from further infection while her lungs matured and healed.
